چکیده

The classical limit of the Wigner-Weyl representation is used to approximate products of boundcontinuummatrix elements that are fundamental to many coherent control computations. The range of utility of the method is quantified through an examination of model problems, single-channel Na2 dissociation and multi-arrangement channel photodissociation of CH2IBr. Very good agreement with the exact quantum results is found for a wide range of system parameters.

Semiclassical propagation of Wigner functions.

We present a comprehensive study of semiclassical phase-space propagation in the Wigner representation, emphasizing numerical applications, in particular as an initial-value representation. Two semiclassical approximation schemes are discussed. The propagator of the Wigner function based on van Vleck's approximation replaces the Liouville propagator by a quantum spot with an oscillatory pattern...

M ay 2 00 9 Representation of quantum dynamics of interacting systems through classical trajectories

We formulate representation of quantum dynamics of many-particle interacting systems through classical trajectories as a perturbative expansion in quantum fluctuations around the classical limit. We explicitly consider three different classical limits in the coordinate-momentum representation (corpuscular classical limit), coherent state representation (wave classical limit), and the classical ...

Introduction to the special issue on Wigner functions

The Wigner function was first derived by E.P. Wigner around 1931 as an exotic outcome of the wave mechanics which, being defined in the phase space, does not favor either coordinate or momentum variables. Pioneered by H.J. Groenewold and J.E.Moyal theWigner formulation of quantum mechanics evolved until the end of last century, to a fully autonomous, independent alternative to Hilbert space mec...

Phase space Langevin equation for spin relaxation in a dc magnetic field

A Langevin equation for the quantum Brownian motion of a spin of arbitrary size in a uniform external dc magnetic field is derived from the phase space master equation in the weak coupling and narrowing limits, for the quasiprobability distribution (Wigner) function of spin orientations in the configuration space of polar and azimuthal angles following methods long familiar in quantum optics. T...
